Tchernovik starts off with short songs and slowly evolves towards repeating and repeating longer ones. Where The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble or Bohren und der Club of Gore feels best on a sweaty night, Povarovo is much colder due to the Russian approach. Thats also a bit of a downside of this album; I really miss that dark and broody Twin Peaks atmosphere. When you play doomy darkjazz it almost immediately sounds the same, even for the masters of Bohren und der Club of Gore its hard to keep up with interesting new stuff. Povarovo is doing almost the same with the saxophone and yes they use a keyboard but it creates the same atmosphere. Different are the zombie vocals in Black Powder who gives this one a haunting feeling. Next up Un der Mike is following with the ethereal vocals in the back, repeating bass lines and dark ambient. The closing songs give Povarovo an own face, sad it took them 50 minutes before finally reach the best. With three or four songs less (15 songs and 71 minutes long is this album) Tchernovik wouldve made a much bigger impact.'
